FARM TO FORK with Johnnie Collins & Tommy Tannock 

On Tuesday 23 January, The Backroom will be taken over by Johnnie Collins and Tommy Tannock of STORE STUDIOS (Berlin, The Strand).

A host at heart, Tommy Tannock grew up in London, but with Chilean family, he has soaked up the flavours of Latin America since birth. Always following his gut instincts, he lived in Tokyo for two years and then moving to Berlin in 2010 worked as a food journalist and consultant. In 2013, he co-founded Bite Club, a night market by the Spree that jumpstarted the city’s street food scene and nurtures new independent traders. Always fascinated by the politics of food supply, he has written for Olive, Munchies, FvF and other publications, as well as edited the Time Out Berlin guidebook and website. In 2014 he launched The Store Kitchen in Berlin and now Store Kitchen Studios at 180 The Strand in London.

Growing up in the English countryside in an open household always filled with guests, Johnnie Collins saw that, with a little effort and generosity, looking after people and feeding them well could create happiness for both provider and recipient. He learnt the value of using seasonal, home grown or locally sourced produce from his garden designer mother and a focus on quality and flavour from his wine merchant father. He began cooking and entertaining for his friends and family from a young age and has since created, managed and cooked at numerous pop-ups, supper clubs and restaurants in London and beyond. He studied at the College of Naturopathic Nutrition and always looks to create simple, natural food with a focus on origin of produce, taste and flavour. Moving to Berlin in 2014 to start The Store Kitchen, he is now based back in London to launch Store Kitchen Studios in 2018.


Collins & Tannock helped open The Store Berlin in 2014 which soon became Berlin’s most buzzing daytime destination known for sensational, seasonal dishes and integrity of produce.  In Berlin they ran a regular Guest Chef series inviting the likes of Kricket, Som Saa and Taku Sekine as well as running pop-ups at Glastonbury and the Venice Biennale.

“At the heart of the Store Kitchen is an emphasis on origin of produce, quality and flavour. We believe taking care about quality of produce is ultimately reflected in the flavour of the dishes created” says Collins.

Tannock says “We support small farmers, producers and suppliers – especially those who follow biodynamic agriculture, traditional processes and natural ingredients, planting with the seasons and respecting their local environment”.

Since 2014, The Store has since grown into a platform for promoting sustainable living and to foster young talents in food.  This year Store Studios at 180 The Strand and Store Kitchen Studio (SKS) open in London.  SKS will provide a physical space with a prep and show kitchen for young chefs and producers to experiment, film and run events around their area of expertise.
