Membership Assistant

The Groucho Club is looking for a Membership Assistant to join our Membership department. The Membership Assistant needs to have proactive energy, a positive can-do attitude and friendly personality alongside all the other skills that make you a top employee. Why is this so important? We are looking for someone who has excellent verbal communication skills alongside good numeracy and reporting skills as the role will involve taking payments, setting up Direct Debits and the analysis of reports.

This is a great opportunity for a candidate who enjoys working in a fast paced, varied role including frequent interaction with members and potential members from within the creative fields.


  • Act as the main point of contact for all general membership enquiries through both email and phone.
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date Membership database, which includes but is not limited to, updating payment details, sending invoices and receipts, updating personal details and uploading member photos.
  • Be the internal champion for the CRM database, maintaining an overarching understanding of how the database is used throughout the Club.
  • Support member acquisition, retention and renewal campaigns and related activities, including market research, as required.
  • Attend The Groucho Club public and member events as needed.
  • Support the Membership Manager with the Membership Committee.
  • Involvement in annual Club events including the Maverick Awards and Frieze Art Fair.
  • Process membership applications and renewals including; New application administration, obtaining proposer and seconder letters of support, conducting application research and preparing applications to be considered by the Membership Committee. Setting up new members post-election. Taking credit card payments and setting up Direct Debits. Running the monthly subscription renewal process and managing subscription payment collection.
  •  lists, statistics, information and reports including; Monthly attrition reports.
  • Respond promptly to member/potential member enquiries (telephone, email etc) and any issues or complaints and escalating where appropriate.
  • Ledger account administration including reviewing daily ledger reports and chasing outstanding ledgers, taking ledger payments and escalating when necessary.
  • Follow-up lapsed members, process resigned membership and reinstate members when they re-join.
  • Assist in the planning and collating of membership newsletter content and internal communications content.
  • Maintaining an understanding of the creative industry landscape.
  • Developing and maintaining good relations with new and existing members and non-members.
  • Undertake other relevant tasks as required.




  • Experience working in an office environment.
  • You must have exceptional communication skills, both written and oral.
  • High degree of computer literacy, including proficiency with MS Office software.
  • Proficiency to carry out multiple assignments concurrently.
  • Quick to learn new systems and technologies.
  • The ability to channel and manage customer feedback effectively.
  • Must have a good understanding on delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Must have an outgoing, confident and bubbly personality.
  • Be smart and well presented at all times.


  • Experience working with CRM systems.
  • Experience working in a Membership department or creative hospitality Club in an administrative role.
