Golden Slippers: Matt Maltese, Nilüfer Yanya, Imperial Daze

Monday 8 May, 7:30pm

Golden Slippers returns this month with three spectacular acts.

Matt Maltese is fully embedded in South London’s thriving music circle; hosting his own residency in Brixton last year whilst playing alongside hotly-tipped local acts such as HMLTD, Goat Girl, Fish and Shame. Wanting to subvert the classic comfortable piano singer/songwriter with his ‘heart on his sleeve’, his music turns into something a little darker, funnier, more self-effacing almost. His newest single, ‘As The World Caves In’ produced by The Maccabees’ Hugo White, was released in March 2017. This follows on from 2016 single ‘Vacant In the 21st Century’ and self-released demo track, ‘Even If It’s A Lie’, which climbed into the top 10 Global Viral chart on Spotify.

Taking her inspiration from iconic songwriters such as Nina Simone and Jeff Buckley as well as modern influences Conan Mockasin and Rosie Lowe, Nilüfer Yanya’s music incorporates the city’s urban edge with beautiful wandering guitar lines. Debut EP released in October 2016 included singles Small Crimes and Keeping on Calling, with Nilufer creating both videos and all artwork.

Imperial Daze is a multi-national South London band, consisting of an Argentinian, a Frenchman and an Englishman. Creeping from the ashes of two garden variety bands and a studio funded by an improbable and unexpected ad placement, Felix, Facundo and Alex have spent the large part of 2016 crafting their own unique groove based pop sound. In the summer of that year, having caught the attention of Rupert Jarvis from the Maccabees, they took their demos into the studio with him in Elephant and Castle to record material, including first single ‘All On Me’. Imperial Daze are on a continuous drive to find new and exciting ways to deliver pop music the way they want to hear it.
