The Groucho Film Club

Monday 7th March

A new classic Groucho Club event is born. Film Club feature regular screenings of great or interesting movies introduced and hosted by a leading figure from the arts to offer insight and context.  March 2016 sees Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller screen the extraordinary concert film Wattstax. Made in 1973 by Mel Stuart, director of the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, the film documents a legendary music festival in Los Angeles after the Watts riots. Featuring performances by Isaac Hayes, Rufus Thomas, The Bar Kays, The Reverend Jesse Jackson and Richard Pryor, Wattstax is social portrait of a community and music scene in upheaval and still painfully relevant all these years later.
